The water feature will continuously lose water due to evaporation. Evaporation is dependent on many variables such as climate, humidity, temperature, etc.
Waterfalls that are placed near air conditioning vents and intakes will evaporate at a faster rate. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE WATER LEVEL SHOULD BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. For the first few months of use, you should monitor the reservoir periodically to determine the rate of evaporation on the waterfall feature.
If a pump runs dry the following can happen:
- Burned out pump
- Spraying from manifold delivery system
Cleaning & Draining
It is recommended that the water feature is shut down once a week for cleaning the mirror or glass. Use standard glass cleaner on all surfaces of the waterfall feature. Also, it is recommended that the water feature be drained once every two to three months depending on water quality in your area and whether the water feature is located inside or outside. After draining, wipe the inside of the reservoir with a wet rag. It is not necessary to use any cleaning agents to remove dirt and debris from the reservoir. However, if you use soap or cleaning solutions make sure to rinse the reservoir thoroughly before refilling with clean water.
Over a period of time hard water may cause the glass to develop a hazy or cloudy film on its surface. Completely draining and replacing the water in the water feature more often will prevent this problem. If the problem continues consider using DISTILLED WATER (contact us).
If calcium begins to build up on your glass, pump, nozzles or filter, the best way to remove it is with a product called CLR (available at most supermarkets or home improvement centers) OR white vinegar.
To clean a pump, nozzle or filter you must
1. Remove it from the water feature
2. Place it in a bucket of half CLR or vinegar
3. Allow it to soak overnight
4. Scrub off any remaining calcium and rinse in fresh water
To clean calcium off the glass, apply CLR or vinegar to a soft cloth and gently work away the residue.
If the unit develops an algae problem you will want to open access to the reservoir through the rock tray. You will notice algae by a sour odor and/or green or brown/black substance. If this occurs then add a pool algaecide to the unit as directed. There is also white gel algae called biofoul. The solution for this problem is a product called “Feature Clean”.

Do not try to clean the filters while there is water is in the reservoir, otherwise during the cleaning process debris and dirt can end up going into the line and clogging the water feature.
1. Drain water from reservoir
2. Unscrew cap and remove filter
3. Clean under tap with bottle brush and running water
4. Reassemble the filter then adjust the valve as required
Water Feature Maintenance Schedule
To keep your water feature at its best and to qualify for your warranty you must:
Check the water levels to prevent damage to the pump (unless auto top-up system is installed
Dose the water feature with algaecide. If required, clean stainless steel with a quality stainless steel polish. If required, clean the class with methylated spirits and paper towel. If you notice any calcium deposits (white marks), you can use a WHITE scour pad and some CLR, to remove them.
Every 2-3 Months:
Drain the water feature completely, wipe down reservoir and clean filter as per instructions (next page)
* Replacing all the water in the water feature once a month will naturally cut back on deposits and possible algae growth. It greatly reduces the need to take a water feature apart for cleaning.
Water Feature Troubleshooting
Pump is noisy:
1. Be sure that the pump connection is secure, because air bubbles may cause noise.
2. Water level must be covering the pump at all times.
Sometimes the water will break away from the sides of the waterfall for one of two reasons.
1. The water surface isn’t clean.
2. Water volume is too low. As nice as it is to have a water feature run slowly,
they cannot start with the same volume and get a wet covering of the surface. Run your finger
down the side, give the water-feature a bump, or open the tap a little more for more flow.
Spitting or dripping nozzles occur for one of six reasons.
1. The nozzle is clogged, clean/replace the nozzle.
2. The pump or filter is clogged. Drain reservoir and clean pump & filter as per instructions.
3. The flow volume is too low. Close tap for more volume.
4. The flow volume is too high. Open tap for less volume.
5. Water level to low (pump must always be covered in water)
6. Spray bar has been moved. Adjust spray bar so that nozzles are 3-5mm
away from the stainless steel weir. Make sure the nozzles are not touching the weir.

Bubble Panel / Bubble Bar
Bubble Panels by nature are designed to be very low on the maintenance that is required to keep them looking as new. A regular water top up (as specified by Living Water Designs) should be all that is needed. A soft non-abrasive cloth is all that should be used to clean the exterior window of the panel. Rain Curtain maintenance is very similar to that of the Living Water Designs Aquafalls. Ongoing they require a weelky water top up if they are not plumbed in, monthly they require a chemical dosage of the recommended water conditioner and quarterly they require a full drain in which the filters, lights and reservoir are all wiped over prior to refilling.
